ECD Centres in Rural Areas Struggle to Survive

Following the 2024/25 budget speech, Ntataise expresses deep concern over the challenges that Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centres face, particularly those serving rural communities. Puleng Motsoeneng, Programme Director and Government Liaison for Ntataise highlighted the critical role of these ECD centres in nurturing our nation’s future.

“We are witnessing first-hand the increasing struggle of ECD centres to survive, especially in rural areas,” said Puleng. “The dedicated individuals tirelessly providing ECD services in these marginalised communities deserve recognition for their invaluable contribution to our nation’s future.”

Puleng adds, “We stand in solidarity with Ilifa Labantwana and other organisations advocating for improved support for ECD initiatives. It’s imperative that the South African Government recognises the vital importance of these centres and allocates adequate resources to ensure their sustainability.”

Ntataise urges policymakers to prioritise investment in ECD centres, acknowledging their crucial role in laying the foundation for children’s lifelong learning and development.
