Food relief in times of Covid-19

The sudden and stringent national lockdown imposed by Covid-19 left many families deprived of work and hence income in areas where Ntataise operates. Recognising the urgent need for food in communities in the Northern Free State, North West and Gauteng provinces where we work, Ntataise became instrumental in various hunger relief initiatives, and arranged for the distribution of 2000 food parcels.

The HCI Foundation and the eMedia Covid-19 Relief Fund donated 1700 food parcels. At Ntataise’s home base in the Free State farming town of Viljoenskroon/Rammulotsi, local farmers donated peanut butter, mielie meal and other foodstuffs. In Gauteng, 100 food parcels were collected during a series of food drives organised by Pirates Sports Club and Adventures for Love Charity, both in Johannesburg which Ntataise distributed to ECD facilities in our Diepsloot project. They were gratefully received by families of young children who attend Ntataise’s playgroups and affiliate ECD centres, as well as ECD practitioners, parents and caregivers who are part of our training, development and support programmes.
